IVA - Individual Voluntary Arrangement

IVA Help and IVA advice

An Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) gives protection from your creditors, and allows you to negotiate a reduced payment plan with these creditors in a legally binding agreement. This ensures you only pay back what you can realistically afford, typical over a 5 year period.

In an IVA your creditors cannot contact you directly, and all interest and charges are frozen. You make a single monthly payment to your Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, who will be responsible for handing out a percentage to each of your creditors at regular intervals.

As long as you keep up with your reduced payments, at the end of the IVA your creditors will write off your remaining debt and you will be debt free.

An IVA is available to people with combined unsecured debts of over £15,000 owed to 3 or more different creditors.

Step One

Call a Debt Release Direct Advisor for FREE on 0800 019 7465. The advisor will discuss how much you can afford to pay your creditors.

Step Two

Our team will then negotiate with your creditors to agree on a fixed payment plan, which will then be formally agreed at a meeting of creditors.

Step Three

As long as you keep up with these affordable monthly payments, after the end of the IVA your remaining debt will be written off.

Benefits of an IVA

  • you have complete legal protection from your creditors - No more hassle, no more phone calls!
  • you will make a single, affordable monthly payment
  • typically the IVA will last only 5 years, regardless of the amount of debt you owe
  • at the end of your completed IVA, your remaining debt will be written off

Disadvantages of an IVA

  • your credit rating may be affected for several years
  • if you have property, you may need to remortgage this at the end of the fixed term and pay a portion of the money into the IVA
